In Redwood City, California, Rocketship Spark Academy is a public charter elementary school. It teaches kids from Transitional Kindergarten (TK) to 5th grade. There are about 544 students at the school, and there are 33 students for every teacher, which is much higher than the state average in California. Rocketship Spark Academy is based on the Rocketship Public Schools model. This model focuses on longer learning times, using data to teach, and teaching basic reading and math skills. The student body is very different, with most of the students coming from minority and multilingual backgrounds, mostly Hispanic/Latino. According to U.S. News, 60% of students meet or exceed the standards for math proficiency, and 52% meet or exceed the standards for reading proficiency. This means that the school is better than the average school in California. Rocketship Spark Academy gets its money from public charter school funds. It has programs to get families involved, help with schoolwork, and do other things.
