Orion Alternative is a public alternative elementary school in Redwood City, California. It is part of the Redwood City Elementary School District and serves students from Kindergarten to 5th grade. The school has about 450–460 students and a student–teacher ratio of 22:1, which is a little higher than the state average. Orion Alternative has a standards-based curriculum that focuses on hands-on learning, STEAM integration, and cooperative education. It encourages students to be active and families to be involved. Data from U.S. News shows that 52% of students meet or exceed math proficiency standards and 52% show proficiency in reading. Both of these numbers are higher than the state averages in California. The state and local public schools pay for Orion Alternative, and it gets a lot of support from parents and the community. In general, the school is known for its unique way of teaching, getting families involved, and doing well in school all the time.

The Redwood City School District recently announced that Orion Alternative School would be one of seven district schools getting new solar canopies. This is part of a big plan to use more renewable energy and lower energy costs starting in 2026.
