Smiley Elementary still offers a great education on its historic campus, with a focus on meeting today's academic standards. The school just made changes to its parent-student handbook for the 2024–2025 school year to include the district's most recent safety rules and measures. Right now, families are getting news about when school starts and when community events are coming up through the RUSD eNews.
Q1. Are there any special programs for the performing arts at Smiley Elementary School?
Ans. Every year, students put on grade-level performances that include music, drama, and public speaking. These performances are a part of the regular school day.
Q2. How do the classrooms at Smiley Elementary School keep its history alive?
Ans. The school keeps its classic architecture but updates the inside with high-speed internet and new interactive whiteboards for teaching.
Q3. What is the process for picking up students early at Smiley Elementary School?
Ans. Parents need to sign their child out at the office. Students will only be let go to people whose names are on the card.
Q4. Does Smiley Elementary School have an open house for families who might want to enroll?
Ans. In the spring, there is an Open House every year where families can see student work and projects and tour the classrooms.
Q5. Does Smiley Elementary School do anything to help the environment or recycle?
Ans. The student "Green Team" helps keep the recycling bins on campus in order and teaches their classmates how to cut down on waste during lunch.
