Being Updated
Wesley Gaines Elementary School has been formally recognized as a California Distinguished School, as confirmed on the school's official website. The designation — awarded by the California Department of Education — acknowledges demonstrated gains in student achievement and school quality. For a K–4 Title I campus carrying the highest per-pupil spending in Paramount Unified at $23,117, the recognition adds a meaningful layer of institutional credibility to a school already ranked second among all Paramount Unified elementary campuses in overall performance.
Q1. Why does Wesley Gaines operate on the K-4 grade span instead of K-5?
Ans. Wesley Gaines operates on the K-4 grade span as a result of a district-level decision regarding enrollment and capacity. The students will transition from 4th grade to an assigned 5th-grade campus and onto a Paramount Unified Middle School after completing the 4th grade.
Q2. Is there a special education program at Wesley Gaines?
Ans. Yes, there is a Special Education Services program at Wesley Gaines. Services are provided through Individualized Education Programs and comply with state and federal requirements. Parents or guardians wishing to obtain eligibility information for entering the special education program should contact the school's Special Education Coordinator.
Q3. What is AVID, and does Wesley Gaines have it?
Ans. Wesley Gaines is an AVID Certified School. The AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) program provides students with organizational skills, critical thinking skills, and habits necessary for success in college, beginning at the elementary level.
Q4. Are there any after-school programs available at Wesley Gaines?
Ans. Yes, Wesley Gaines provides after-school care through Think Together and the Extended Learning Opportunity Program. Interested families should register through the school office as soon as possible since there are limited spots available for the after-school programs.
Q5. How can parents volunteer or participate in committees at Wesley Gaines?
Ans. Wesley Gaines promotes structured opportunities for both volunteers and parents to participate in school committees. Refer to the For Families link for information about volunteering and how to participate in school committees.
