Latest News

The Golden Valley River School, along with the broader Golden Valley Charter Schools community, has recently announced an upcoming gala and auction to celebrate their 25th anniversary on March 28 at the Folsom Community Center. This event is for families, alumni, and supporters to come together to mark more than 20 years of providing Waldorf-inspired public education to the Orangevale area. According to organizers, proceeds from this fundraiser will go towards supporting existing classroom programs, student activities, and future initiatives at the various Golden Valley campuses.

FAQ

Q1. Is there a unique or definitive educational philosophy that Golden Valley River School adheres to?

Ans. Golden Valley River School draws inspiration from Waldorf-style education, which values artistic and creative expression as well as a hands-on approach to instruction, in combination with an emphasis on balanced academic, social, and artistic development throughout the day.

Q2. Are parents able to get involved in school activities or events?

Ans. Parents have an opportunity for active participation in the life of the school through volunteering (for example: events, classroom support) and through attending community gatherings. Many families will support their students’ educational experience by participating in seasonal celebrations, assisting in fundraising or providing other forms of classroom support. Through this active involvement they are helping to develop strong partnerships between the school and community.

Q3. Are there enrichment opportunities available to students that are not part of the standard curriculum?

Ans. Enrichment opportunities are common in K–8 schools and may include programs that provide activities beyond traditional classroom instruction. For example, enrichment opportunities may be offered through different types of artistic expression such as visual arts or music, as well as in creativity-oriented programs such as drama, dance, and crafting, all of which will foster the continued development of the whole child.

Q4. What kind of school environment can families expect at Golden Valley River?

Ans. Golden Valley River provides an environment that is smaller and oriented toward being part of the greater community. Multi-age classrooms can help students build lasting relationships with classmates and teachers; therefore, by remaining in the same school for multiple years, the students are provided a sense of familiarity in their learning environment that aids in their educational development.

Q5. Are there school events or community traditions during the academic year?

Ans. Schools with strong community involvement often organize seasonal events, performances, or family gatherings during the school year. These occasions give students opportunities to showcase their work and allow families to connect with teachers and other members of the school community.
