Being Updated
At this year’s San Joaquin County STEAM Fair & Expo, a group of Wicklund Elementary School students won 2nd place in the Math/Computer Science category for their project named ‘AI Healthy Lunch Analyzer.’ This project investigates how artificial intelligence can be used to assess what meals to eat and help students make better choices. This is an example of the increasing emphasis on STEM education / student innovation at Wicklund Elementary School, as well as generating positive publicity for the campus and students involved with STEM research.
Q1. Are there any extracurricular activities for students at Wicklund Elementary?
Ans. There are a number of extracurricular opportunities available to students, including participation in a range of clubs, enrichment programs, and school-sponsored events that support the development of creativity, leadership skills, and teamwork, as well as other forms of learning beyond what they learn in their regular, daily classes.
Q2. Is there before-school care and/or after-school care for students?
Ans. Many families utilize structured before- and/or after-school programs that are operated by district partners or other organizations in the local community upon which students can depend upon to have structured academic/educational support and to participate in recreational activities outside of regular school hours.
Q3. How will I know what is going on at my child's school?
Ans. Typically, parents can stay informed about the happenings at their children's schools through the regular use of newsletters, emails, and digital platforms (e.g., websites, apps) that are used to distribute news, event calendars, and class/subject-area information for the entire school year.
Q4. Does the school have meal programs for students?
Ans. Yes. Students generally participate in breakfast and lunch programs that meet or exceed state and federal nutritional guidelines and include a variety of healthy, age-appropriate meal options that are supportive of children's development and growth.
Q5. Are there opportunities for parent involvement at the school?
Ans. Parent involvement within schools often occurs by parents volunteering, participating in parent cohorts or groups, and through family activities held at the school that promote the collaboration of families, teachers, and administrators in support of the whole school community.
