Big Springs Elementary had a post on April 11, 2025 which gave a positive update on Spring including thanks to “Mrs. B” for creating a Field Day/Teacher Work Day from a snow day - a nice reminder of the spirit of our campus. There was also a promotion for an Open House and Science Fair on May 7, where families will be able to visit their child’s classroom and look at projects made by their children.

FAQ

Q1. What kind of community does Big Springs Elementary school serve?

Ans. Big Springs Elementary is located in a rural area of Montague, often leading to a feeling of smaller than larger district-type schools. The school's location in a rural area, along with neighboring community members, gives the school a more local community atmosphere than larger district schools.

Q2. Does Big Springs Elementary typically provide the same campus experience for younger and older students?

Ans. Yes, because Big Springs Elementary is K-8, students are at the same school for both the elementary and middle school years. This creates continuity in students' routines, knowing staff, and experience with the school.

Q3. What types of transportation are usually most important to families considering a Big Springs Elementary education?

Ans. When considering a Big Springs Elementary education, families usually consider their daily commute, bus service, and access to the road, as rural schools mostly serve students who live in many areas outside the school. Because there usually aren't as many roads or available routes to get to the schools located in denser cities, the transportation options are more limited for families and will greatly affect their decision.

Q4. Why do some families prefer a smaller environment in K–8 schools?

Ans. Many families prefer to send their children to a smaller K–8 setting because they want their children to have an educational experience that is more contained within one campus, with fewer transitions from one school or location to another, and the possibility of their child being known by the same staff throughout their education.

Q5. Prior to enrolling, what should parents inquire about with respect to their child?

Ans. Parents may wish to inquire about: their neighbourhood’s attendance zone, registering, school day timetable, lunch programmes, and any other activities or support services offered by the school at the respective grade level.
