"Mindful Starts" is a new morning routine at One Hundred Thirty-Fifth Street Elementary that helps students get ready for their main subjects. The school recently held an orientation for parents who want to help with projects that will improve the look of the campus. Principal Sherree Lewis-De Vaughn is helping teachers get ready for the academic reports that are due next month, at the end of the trimester.
Q1. What do "Mindful Starts" mean at 135th Street Elementary?
Ans. This morning routine includes breathing exercises and quiet reflection to help students get ready for their schoolwork.
Q2. Is there an orientation for parents who want to volunteer at 135th Street Elementary?
Ans. The school holds sessions to teach parents how to help with safety rules for making the campus and classrooms look better.
Q3. How does "135th Street Elementary" handle student attendance?
Ans. To get kids to be in their seats and ready to learn, the school celebrates perfect attendance every month.
Q4. Does 135th Street Elementary have any clubs that care about the environment?
Ans. A "Green Team" made up of students is in charge of recycling and getting everyone on campus to save energy.
Q5. Is there a choral music program at 135th Street Elementary?
Ans. Students can join the school choir to work on their singing skills and sing at school and community events.
