It is one of seven high schools in the Central Unified School District and has a lot of students, with a student-to-teacher ratio of about 24:1. The school is known for being one of the best because it prepares students for college by letting them take Advanced Placement® classes and tests. Right now, 15% of students are taking AP® classes. There are a lot of different types of people on campus. For example, 83% of the students are minorities and 77% are economically disadvantaged. Central High has a reading level of 58% and a math level of 16%. The school is in an area where more and more people are moving in, and it is known as one of the best schools for balancing a strong academic program with a wide range of extracurricular activities. Central High School is putting student health and wellness first by opening a new wellness center on campus that will offer mental health resources and peer support groups. The athletic department is still doing well, as a number of student-athletes recently signed National Letters of Intent to play at the college level. The school has added extended-day tutoring sessions in core subjects to make sure that all students have the tools they need to graduate.
