At the 42nd Annual Doris Niles Science Fair in March 2025, Freshwater Charter Middle School got some attention. Avery Hassler, a seventh grader, was one of five people chosen to go to the California Science and Engineering Fair for the project "How Rainfall Affects Salinity in Coastal Lagoons." The advancement put the school in the running for the state-level science competition.
