Independent Elementary School staff members Matt Croghan and Nancy Law have been officially recognized by the district for their exceptional dedication and service this year. The school recently hosted information nights for families interested in the 2026–2027 Spanish Dual Language Immersion program opportunities. Students and families are reminded that priority enrollment for the next school year closed on February 27, 2026, to determine campus placement.
Q1. Does Independent Elementary School have a transitional kindergarten program for kids who are younger?
Ans. The school has a separate TK classroom where young students can learn basic social and academic skills.
Q2. What are the rules for using personal electronic devices at Independent Elementary School?
Ans. During the whole school day, students must keep their personal tablets and phones off and in their backpacks.
Q3. What does Independent Elementary School do to reward students for their good behavior and accomplishments?
Ans. Every month, the school holds assemblies where students get certificates for being responsible and nice to their classmates.
Q4. Are there certain rules about playground safety that Independent Elementary School follows during recess?
Ans. Under the supervision of the yard staff, students must use the equipment as it was meant to be used and follow the "hands-off" rule.
Q5. Is Independent Elementary School part of the district-wide Spanish Dual Language Immersion program?
Ans. The school has a special DLI track where students learn some of their lessons in Spanish every day.
