Las Virgenes Independent School is one of the few LVUSD programs actively promoted on the district's main website as a year-round enrollment option. In 2025-26, LVUSD invested in upgrading its mobile phone policy across all campuses — LVIS included — a policy that applies to the school's small 30-student enrollment just as it does to campuses 20 times its size. The school's contact for enrollment remains lvis@lvusd.org, and the district has been quietly expanding awareness of LVIS among families who find traditional elementary settings too rigid for their child's situation.

FAQ

Q1. Who is Las Virgenes Independent designed for?

Ans. LVIS is built for students who need something different from the traditional five-days-a-week classroom model. That includes students managing medical conditions, athletes or performers with irregular schedules, students who've been bullied or are dealing with social anxiety, and academically advanced learners who benefit from an accelerated, self-paced setup. It's not remedial — it just runs differently.

Q2. Does Las Virgenes Independent have open enrollment, or is it assigned?

Ans. Open enrollment — any student currently enrolled in LVUSD can apply throughout the school year, not just during registration season. That's different from all the other LVUSD elementary campuses, which assign students based on where they live. Families can email lvis@lvusd.org to start the application process.

Q3. How does the academic program work at LVIS?

Ans. Students work with teachers on individualized learning plans rather than following a fixed class schedule. They come to campus for one-on-one support sessions and can access on-campus enrichment labs. The pace can be accelerated or slowed depending on the student's needs — it's genuinely personalized in a way that's unusual for a public school setting.

Q4. How does LVIS handle the transition from elementary to middle school content?

Ans. Because LVIS runs K–12 on the same program, the transition between elementary and middle school content is managed within a single individualized plan. There's no separate campus to move to and no abrupt structural change. Students progress through content as they're ready rather than at a fixed grade-level timeline.

Q5. Is Las Virgenes Independent a good fit for students dealing with chronic illness or anxiety?

Ans. That's exactly one of the primary populations the school serves. The flexible schedule means students aren't penalized for medical appointments or recovery periods, and the small size — 30 students total — means every student is known by name. Whether it's a better fit than a traditional campus depends on the child, but the program was designed with these specific situations in mind.
