Chaparral Elementary School is on Liberty Bell Road — specifically 22601 Liberty Bell Road, Calabasas, CA 91302, just off Mulholland Highway. It serves kindergarten through fifth grade as a non-charter public school in the Las Virgenes Unified School District. The largest elementary campus in LVUSD, Chaparral, currently enrolls 599 students. The student-teacher ratio is 23:1, which sits below the district average. Boys and girls each make up exactly 50% of the student body. According to state assessment data, 65% of students reached math proficiency, and 77% reached reading proficiency — both figures in the top 10% of all California elementary schools. Chaparral earned California Distinguished School recognition and follows the school-wide motto "C.U.B.S. — A Community Unified Builds Success," which drives its approach to academics and character. As a boundary-based campus in the Greater Mulwood neighborhood, Chaparral pulls students from the residential streets directly surrounding Liberty Bell Road. Homes in this corridor trade near $1.4 million, in line with the broader Calabasas market. Ranked #942 in California, Chaparral is one of the top public elementary campuses in Los Angeles County and a standout among the best elementary schools in California.
New Playground Name
We are so excited to announce the name of our new playground! Following a school-wide and Robinson community vote we narrowed a large list of names down to four. Since our students will be using the playground on a daily basis, we gave them the final vote! 476.....

Being Updated
Chaparral Elementary made it into the LVUSD Friday newsletter spotlight in 2025-26 for two separate student events — a Diwali celebration organized by a first-grade teacher and a tie-dye day — both of which circulated on the district's social channels. More substantively, the school's California Distinguished School status was reaffirmed in the 2023 cycle, a designation that requires schools to demonstrate consistent academic performance and innovative programming. Principal Nicki Goldstein has maintained the school's reputation as one of the district's top campuses, with 77% reading proficiency placing it ahead of all but one other LVUSD elementary school.
Q1. What does "C.U.B.S." mean at Chaparral, and how does it shape daily school life?
Ans. C.U.B.S. stands for "A Community Unified Builds Success" it's the school's motto and the framework behind how teachers, students, and parents are expected to engage. It's not just a slogan on a wall. The school's communication, discipline, and community events all come back to this idea that the campus works best when everyone pulls in the same direction.
Q2. Does Chaparral have specialists for PE, music, and art?
Ans. Yes. Chaparral has dedicated specialists for physical education, music, and art — something parent reviews consistently highlight as a differentiator. Not all LVUSD elementary schools offer all three at the same depth. There's also a media coordinator and a school counselor listed on the staff directory.
Q3. What after-school care is available at Chaparral?
Ans. After-school care runs through LVUSD Plus, the district's extended day program. Families can also access enrichment options through the school's Parent Faculty Association, which is notably active at Chaparral and funds additional programs beyond what the district budget covers.
Q4. How does enrollment at Chaparral work for families moving into the area?
Ans. Chaparral enrolls students based on residential attendance boundaries set by LVUSD. Families need to confirm their home address falls within Chaparral's zone before registering. The LVUSD website has a School Finder tool at schoolsitelocator.com/apps/mtdiablo that maps attendance boundaries across all schools in the district.
Q5. What is Chaparral's feeder pattern for middle and high school?
Ans. Chaparral students feed into Alice C. Stelle Middle School, then Calabasas High School. Students who've been in the LVUSD system from elementary through high school tend to stay together as a cohort, which parents in the Chaparral community frequently cite as one of the reasons they chose this school over private options.
