Being Updated
One of the most exciting things to happen at Holly Avenue Elementary recently was when Courtney Franz, a teacher for special education, was recognized as one of the 2024 Teachers of the Year by Los Angeles County. The award is given to teachers from all over the area who have demonstrated outstanding work as educators. Courtney has shown her dedication to helping students succeed as well as supporting her peers in creating better learning environments for their students. According to school administration, her commitment to making sure all of her students are successful and to working collaboratively with other teachers has made an enormous difference throughout both Holly Avenue and the Arcadia Unified School District communities.
Q1. Are there volunteer opportunities for parents at Holly Avenue Elementary School?
Ans. Public elementary schools generally encourage families to become involved in their school's life through various volunteer roles. Parents may volunteer in a variety of ways, such as assisting in classrooms, helping during school events, or supporting programs that take place throughout the school year.
Q2. What types of resources are available for an elementary school's library to help students?
Ans. Most elementary schools will have a wide selection of books and reading materials for different grade levels that will help students find books appropriate for their reading level within a school or campus. Elementary school students may visit the library during scheduled class time or designated reading periods or during assigned times in the library, to read for their own pleasure or as part of a reading assignment or develop a habit of learning by working independently on material that they have obtained from the library.
Q3. How does a student receive assistance academically if they require additional assistance?
Ans. Schools often provide additional support for students who need help with certain subjects. The types of academic assistance include small group instruction, guided assistance in the classroom, and additional (outside) academic resources to help students understand the concepts and ideas from the various subject areas.
Q4. Do family members have the opportunity to attend school events throughout the academic year?
Ans. Many elementary schools usually organize several events during the year for students' families to get involved with the school community. These include but are not limited to open houses, seasonal programs, student showcases and student performances which allow families to maintain a connection to their child's school experience.
Q5. How do teachers and staff help students develop teamwork and social skills?
Ans. Teachers often use group projects and collaborative activities to help students learn how to work together. These activities encourage communication, teamwork, and respect among classmates.
