Old Shell Road School of Creative & Performing Arts is a public magnet elementary school in Mobile, Alabama serving grades K-5 under Mobile County Public Schools. Located at 3160 Heather Street, it offers an arts-infused curriculum with specialized classes in dance, drama, music, visual arts, and movement integrated alongside rigorous core academics. The school emphasizes character development, expression, and inquiry, guided by the motto “STARS: Shining Through Arts and Rigorous Scholarship.” Principal Dr. Linda S. On May 1, 2025, during Teacher Appreciation Week, the school celebrated its teaching staff, recognizing their ongoing dedication and impact.
On April 23, 2025, “Learning Leading” students from Old Shell Road School were honored for making positive contributions, aligned with the district’s “Learning To Leading” initiative.
Also announced April 23, 2025: The 2025-26 school year will begin August 11.

A1. The school has about 369–381 students in grades K-5, with approximately a 17:1 student-teacher ratio. In state assessments, roughly 67% of students meet proficiency in math and 82% in reading.

A2. The principal is Dr. Linda S. Byrd, responsible for instructional leadership, arts integration, staff collaboration, and community relations. Leadership includes grade-level teacher teams, an arts faculty, and administrative support under MCPSS.

A3. Students receive specialized instruction in dance, drama, music, visual arts, movement, and engage in broadcasting, robotics, archery, student council, plus arts showcases and major performances annually.

A4. It holds a 10/10 rating on GreatSchools, is ranked among the top public elementary schools in Mobile County, and has been honored as a National Blue Ribbon School and maintained A ratings in state assessments.

A5. Parents are involved via the Magnet School Contract, support arts events and performances, volunteer through the PTO, and engage in communication via weekly newsletters, social media, and school meetings to support academics and arts education.
