Being Updated
Westbrook Elementary School has launched a new “Park and Play” initiative to support families during student pickup time. The setup allows parents to bring younger children to socialize and explore books and learning materials outside the school. The program is designed to make dismissal more efficient while creating a more engaging experience for the whole family.
Q1. How does Westbrook help students learn how to use visual step cards?
Ans. Students use picture-based step cards during activities so they can do things on their own without having to ask for directions over and over again.
Q2. How does the school help kids learn about sound-symbol correspondence early on?
Ans. Teachers help students match beginning sounds with letters by having them practice speaking and doing simple word-building activities.
Q3. What routines help make cleanup after STEM building tasks go smoothly?
Ans. Students use labeled bin systems, sorting trays, and checklists at the end of a project to make sure they return things correctly.
Q4. How does Westbrook help kids learn about their timelines early on?
Ans. Students put things like birthdays and first days of school in order to learn about sequencing and how things change over time.
Q5. What does the school do to make sure people act responsibly in the coat room?
Ans. Students practice putting things away neatly, keeping the aisles clear, and checking for their things so that shared spaces stay safe and organized.
