Wakonda Elementary School announced its Winter Recess with no school for students from December 22 through January 2. Families were encouraged to plan accordingly for the break.
Q1. How does Wakonda help kids learn about civic duty at an early age?
Ans. In OPS social studies lessons, students talk about community helpers, school roles, and easy ways that people can help their community.
Q2. What does the school do to help students learn how to make compound words?
Ans. Teachers use picture cards and oral blending activities to help students put two words together to make a new meaning.
Q3. What methods help students learn words that describe temperature, like "hot," "warm," and "cool"?
Ans. Students compare things in the classroom, the weather, and science materials to connect real-life examples with descriptive temperature words.
Q4. What does Wakonda do to help kids learn how to follow posted rules?
Ans. Students learn to check visual posters for steps, like cleaning tables or lining up, to help them become more independent in their routines.
Q5. How does the school help students know what is expected of them when they move around inside?
Ans. Teachers show students how to walk quietly, keep a safe distance, and move with a purpose when they are moving through hallways or multipurpose areas.
