Picotte Elementary School reported that fifth-grade students recently visited the Kiewit Luminarium. Students in the Reading Olympics program also met with author Mylissa Larsen during a special visit.
Q1. How does Picotte talk about early ideas about map scale?
Ans. Students look at real things and simplified maps to learn how scale shows larger areas in smaller formats.
Q2. What does the school do to make blending and segmenting routines stronger?
Ans. Teachers help students build phonemic awareness by having them blend sounds, tap, and isolate word parts.
Q3. What methods help students learn about temperature differences?
Ans. During district science lessons, students use basic thermometers to compare readings that are warmer and cooler.
Q4. What does Picotte do to help kids write nonfiction?
Ans. Students write simple informational texts by using fact charts, labeled drawings, and sentence starters based on a topic.
Q5. What routines help kids make responsible transitions after lunch?
Ans. Students follow reminders to drink water, expectations for calm entry, and structured procedures after lunch before going back to schoolwork.
