Kellom Elementary School’s Garden Club, founded by school psychologist Lindsey Sheets, won the November 2025 “Cash In For Schools” grant from KETV and Thrasher Foundation Repair. The $2,500 award will fund supplies such as a tiller, tools, mulch, and plants to support hands-on learning and life skills.
Q1. How does Kellom help kids learn how to think critically early on?
Ans. Teachers help students think deeply by giving them open-ended prompts, comparison activities, and guided inquiry questions.
Q2. How does the school teach kids about the weather?
Ans. Students use OPS science expectations to look at temperature, keep track of daily weather patterns, and talk about how the seasons change.
Q3. What do you do every day to make sure the hallways are safe and orderly?
Ans. Kellom uses visual cues, line procedures, and staff supervision to make sure people move through the building safely and quietly.
Q4. What does the school do to help students understand the characters in stories?
Ans. During literacy lessons, students discuss changes in a story, compare motivations, and figure out what makes a character tick.
Q5. How does Kellom help kids get better at counting?
Ans. Students practice skip counting, use manipulatives, and play counting games that fit with the district's math standards.
