There are about 290,000 to 300,000 people from many different cultures living in Anchorage, Alaska. It is in the south-central part of the state and has many outdoor activities and community events. The mountains and wilderness make a beautiful setting for these events. The Anchorage School District runs over 90 public schools, including about 60 elementary schools that serve thousands of students from a variety of backgrounds. The main goals of ASD are to help students do well in school, include all cultures, and offer activities outside of school. There are also a lot of private and independent schools that offer excellent education for families. Families looking for a good, well-rounded elementary school should think about Anchorage.
