The Biloxi Public School District runs Biloxi Upper Elementary School, a public elementary school for grades 5–6. With about 780 students and a student-teacher ratio of about 12:1, the school can give each student the attention they need during important years of change. The students come from a wide range of cultural and economic backgrounds, which is typical for the Biloxi area. The main goal of the academic program at Biloxi Upper Elementary School is to help students build strong foundations in math, reading, science, and social studies. According to USA News, about 65% of students are good at math and 55% are good at reading. This shows that they do better than most students in the state. Teaching focuses on skill development, learning based on tests, and getting students involved. The school gets money from the government and help from the community. Biloxi is known as a family-friendly coastal city, which is good for the school. In general, Biloxi Upper Elementary School is a safe place for upper-elementary students to learn, and the school has good academic results, making it one of the best schools in Mississippi.
