Sparrows Point Middle has about 38 full-time equivalent teachers and two full-time school counselors. The student-to-teacher ratio is about 14:1, which means that the classes are a little smaller than the district average. U.S. News data show that about 11% of students are proficient in math and about 42% are proficient in reading/ELA. This means that students do better in reading than in math. The students are from a wide range of backgrounds. 51% are female, and 49% are male. About half of the students come from low-income families.
