In March 2026, Deerlake Middle School got some press for its students' great science scores. A student won first place in the Junior Chemistry division at the Capital Regional Science Fair with a project about Vitamin C. This win has moved the student up to the Florida State Science and Engineering Fair. The award shows that the school's students still compete in academic competitions and use what they learn in class in real life.
