Weir High School is a well-known public high school in Weirton, West Virginia. It is one of two secondary schools in the Hancock County Schools system. The school serves grades 9 through 12 and has about 600 students, which is a good number because there is only one teacher for every 14 students. It is one of the most well-known schools in the Northern Panhandle and focuses on preparing students for college through Advanced Placement courses. Weir High School recently opened a brand-new gym and sports complex that was completely renovated with new seating and modern locker rooms, thanks to support from the community. The school's theater department got a lot of attention in the area for its most recent show, which used new digital stagecraft technology that was all handled by students. This year, the school also started a Peer Mentorship program that pairs upperclassmen with freshmen to help them adjust and get more involved on campus.
