West High School is a well-known public school in Madison, Wisconsin, that offers a challenging academic environment for students in grades 9 through 12. As a key part of the Madison Metropolitan School District, it is known as one of the best schools because of its high standards and wide-ranging curriculum. The school can take in about 2,200 students and keeps a student-to-teacher ratio of about 14:1. West High School is one of the best schools in the state. It has a lot of Advanced Placement® classes, and 48% of students take them. The campus is home to a diverse group of people, with 49% of students being minorities and 29% of students being economically disadvantaged. According to data from 2026, the school has a 43% proficiency in math and a 60% proficiency in reading. The school sets up important college entrance tests like the ACT and SAT to help students get ready for college. It is known as one of the best schools in the area because it offers great college-level classes and a supportive environment that encourages students to take charge and do well in school.

West High School just had a big party to celebrate the opening of its new four-story classroom addition. The addition has modern, flexible learning spaces and advanced STEM labs for 2026. This month, the school's performing arts department got national attention for its collaborative theater production, which included students writing the script and designing the set. Additionally, a new environmental project has put solar panels on the roof of the campus. These panels are useful for science students as a learning tool.
