First Colonial High School is a public high school in Virginia Beach, Virginia. It is part of the Virginia Beach City Public Schools district and serves grades 9 through 12. The school has about 1,700 students and a student-to-teacher ratio of about 17:1, which helps students stay focused on their studies. The school has a full academic program, including Advanced Placement classes and tests, and about 43% of students take AP classes. Students can also take specialized classes like Legal Studies, as well as college-preparatory courses and activities outside of school. For the 2025–2026 school year, academic performance data show good results, with about 87% of students doing well in math and about 92% doing well in reading. The school also helps students get ready for college by giving them the chance to take the SAT and ACT tests. About 43% of the students are minorities, and about 33% are economically disadvantaged. This shows that the school has a diverse student body.

First Colonial High School is making headlines with its recent basketball game wins, like the exciting 57-55 win over Bayside High School on January 6, 2026. The varsity boys basketball team at the school has been showing off their skills by beating Great Bridge High School again, this time by a score of 72 to 56. First Colonial High School also works with local colleges to offer dual enrollment, which lets students earn both high school and college credits at the same time.
