Monterey High School is a public high school in Lubbock, Texas. It is part of the Lubbock Independent School District. It is for students in grades 9 through 12. There are about 2,080 students at the school, and the student-to-teacher ratio is about 16:1. This makes it easier to teach in a structured way. Monterey High School has Advanced Placement (AP) classes, electives, and career-focused programs to help students get ready for college and other things they can do after high school. Monterey High School is in mourning after a senior student died in a New Year's Day fireworks accident. Friends and family let go of balloons to honor his life and academic plans, and the community is coming together to grieve and remember him.
