About West Scranton HS

West Scranton High School is a public high school in Scranton, Pennsylvania, for students in grades 9 through 12. It is one of two high schools in the Scranton School District. There are about 1,700 to 1,800 students at the school, and there are about 16 students for every teacher. This makes it easier to learn on a structured urban campus. West Scranton High School has a full academic program, with Advanced Placement® classes and tests. About 10% of students take AP classes, which are harder than regular high school classes. The school also helps students get ready for college and jobs by giving them SAT and ACT tests, academic counseling, and other activities that help them get ready for life after high school. The school has a lot of different kinds of students, and about 63% of them are not white. The community can help most of the students at the school pay for their school costs. Reports on student proficiency levels for the school year 2025–2026 show that 6% of students are good at math and 56% are good at reading.
