About Reading SHS

Reading Senior High School is the only high school in the Reading School District. It is a public high school in Reading, Pennsylvania, for grades 9–12. The school has about 2,800 to 3,000 students and a student-to-teacher ratio of about 18:1, which helps with teaching on a large urban campus. Reading Senior High School has a wide range of academic programs, including Advanced Placement® classes and tests. About 11% of students take AP classes, which gives them the chance to learn at a college level. The school also helps students get ready for college by giving them SAT and ACT tests, academic counseling, and extra activities. Career-focused programs and extracurricular activities add to what students learn in the classroom. The student body is very diverse, with about 96% of students being minorities. The school serves a community where most students are eligible for programs that help them financially. Reported proficiency levels for the 2025–2026 school year show about 13% in Math and 33% in Reading. This gives us an idea of how well students are doing in school.

Reading Senior High School is getting a lot of attention for its new programs! The school recently got $51 million from the federal government to finish building the RHS Innovation Academy, a STEM school that will help with overcrowding and give students more space to learn. Students will be ready for success in the future thanks to this new building. The school is also putting on a number of events, such as Course Exploration Night, to get students and parents involved.
