With 85% of its students being minorities, this school is known as one of the best in the area. It has a lively and welcoming learning environment. The school is dedicated to helping all of its students, all of whom are economically disadvantaged, with a variety of academic and social resources. Las Cruces High School has a strong Advanced Placement® program as part of its academic curriculum, and 30% of students take part in it. According to the most recent proficiency data, 31% of students are successful in Reading and 13% in Math, and it is one of the best High School in "New Mexico" . The school has about 1,500 students and a student-teacher ratio of about 17:1, which makes it a fun place to learn. It is known as one of the best schools because it has strong ties to the community and offers a wide range of extracurricular activities. It is still committed to preparing students for the challenges of higher education and professional careers through a balanced and supportive approach to education.

Margaret Collins, a senior, has been chosen as one of only two students from New Mexico to take part in the 64th annual United States Senate Youth Program in Washing to n, D.C. On National Signing Day, the school honored a number of student-athletes. Three football players, including star running back Danny Amaro, signed with New Mexico Highlands University. The district is also improving its athletic facilities, which will help Las Cruces High. For example, the track will be completely resurfaced.
