About James J Ferris High School

James J. Ferris High School is a public high school in Jersey City, New Jersey, that teaches students in grades 9 through 12. It is one of the eight high schools in the Jersey City Public Schools system. There are about 1,300 students at the school, and there are about 14–15 students for every teacher. This makes it easier to teach in a planned way. James J. Ferris High School has a full curriculum that includes core academic subjects, career-oriented pathways, and the chance to take Advanced Placement® classes and tests. About 24% of students take AP® classes. About 89% of the students are not white, and about 62% of them come from families with low incomes. This shows that the students are not all the same, just like the community. For the years 2025–2026, about 9% of students are good at math and 38% are good at reading. The SAT and ACT are two tests that students can take to see if they are ready for college. At the district level, each student's money goes to academic programs and services for students.
