The school has about 1,500 students in grades 9 through 12 and a student-to-teacher ratio of about 14:1. People say it's one of the best schools because it has great Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs and has been able to bring together a large, diverse student body into a strong academic community. The demographic profile shows that 52% of the students are minorities and 56% are from low-income families. In terms of academic success, the school has a 46% proficiency rate in Reading and a 28% proficiency rate in Math, and it is one of the best high school in Maine. Students are encouraged to take the SAT and ACT tests to improve their chances of getting into college. Lewiston High School is known as one of the best schools because it is strong and works hard to give all students equal access to both college and vocational careers. It gets about $15,000 per student.

Recently, Lewis to n High School added new advanced manufacturing technology to its technical education wing. This gives students the chance to work with precision machining and robotics. The school also celebrated the success of its performing arts department, which got high marks for its winter play and technical stage design. The campus is also starting a new student-led peer mediation program to help students become leaders and build a sense of community.
