The school has about 2,000 students and a student-to-teacher ratio of about 18:1, which helps with structured classroom learning. There are a lot of different types of students at the school, with about 89% of them being minorities. This reflects the multicultural nature of the Elgin community. Larkin High School has a full academic program that prepares students for college and careers. This includes Advanced Placement® courses and tests, with almost 48% of students taking them. For the 2025–2026 school year, the results show that about 7% of students were good at math and 13% were good at reading and writing. The school also lets students take the SAT and ACT, which helps them plan for college. Public money helps pay for classes, student services, and a number of activities outside of school. Larkin High School is located in a well-established residential area of Elgin. It offers a welcoming and supportive place to learn.

Larkin High School is a very happy place. The school is getting a new stadium that costs $11.8 million, which is a big deal. There will be a new track, fake grass, and seating for 2,250 people. This new building will make school and sports spirit better. Students have also been praised for their work in career and technical education programs like cooking, teaching, engineering, and healthcare.
