It is the only high school in the Great Oaks Charter School District, and it is known for its high-dosage tutoring model and focus on getting students ready for college. The school has about 250 students and a student-to-teacher ratio of about 13:1. Students are encouraged to take challenging classes, such as Advanced Placement courses, which 18% of students do. The student body is culturally diverse, with 95% of students being from a minority group and 52% of students being from a low-income family, and it is one of the best High School in "Connecticut" . Great Oaks Charter School says that only 14% of its students are good at math and 29% of its students are good at reading. Great Oaks Charter School is expanding its intensive fellowship program, which gives students one-on-one tutoring every day to help them learn core subjects faster. The school recently got a big grant from the state to improve its buildings and add more activities for students after school next term. These new resources help create a college-preparatory culture that stresses both hard classes and long-term mentoring for all students.
