Balboa High School is currently expanding its "small learning communities" model to make sure that every student has strong, supportive relationships with their teachers while taking challenging classes that prepare them for college. Recently, a student at the school was named one of the winners of the 2025 Superintendent's 21st Century Award for their important work as a restorative peer mediator, which helped make the campus more welcoming. The school's Brain Food Society also got a big grant recently to start a "AutoLab" project, where students will design and build self-driving cars with sensors.
