University City High is one of the best schools in the San Diego Unified School District for grades 9–12. With about 1,800 students, it has a 56% Advanced Placement participation rate, making it one of the best schools for academic excellence. The campus has a diverse population, with 64% of students being minorities and 47% being economically disadvantaged. It has a student-to-teacher ratio of about 24:1, which makes it one of the best schools in the area. The school has done very well, with 80% of students being able to read and 50% being able to do math. Students regularly take the SAT and ACT to help them reach their goals after high school. The school is in the lively "Golden Triangle" area, and the community is known for its strong STEM programs and active participation. University City High is known for its high proficiency scores and its promise to prepare students for success at competitive colleges and in professional careers, and it is one of the best high school in California.

There are a lot of improvements being made to the University City High School campus that will make it safer and easier for students to get around. Some of these are new places for cars to park and better paths for people to walk. District-wide programs have also helped the Class of 2026 get ready for college and careers much better. Students also keep using modern classroom technology and special facilities that are paid for by local bond measures to help them get advanced technical and vocational education.
