About Long Beach Unified School District ROP

The Long Beach Unified School District has a program called ROP, which stands for Regional Occupational Program. This is a public program for career and technical education that takes place in Long Beach, California. It helps students in grades 9 through 12 all over the district get ready for work. Every year, about 2,000 students sign up for the program. We keep the number of students in each class small, with about 18 kids per teacher. Students learn real-world skills, get industry certifications, and get experience for jobs while still going to their regular high school classes. There are a lot of different kinds of students here, and most of them say they are minorities. This really shows who lives in Long Beach. Students in ROP programs learn mostly skills, but they still have to meet all the regular academic requirements to graduate. The only difference is how their Math and Reading scores are reported compared to regular high schools. High school students can take college entrance tests like the SAT right at their own schools.
