The school has about 2,400 students in grades 9 through 12 and keeps a student-to-teacher ratio of about 24:1. The school is known as one of the best because it has tough academic programs and a high AP participation rate of 40%. There are 34% minority students, and 36% of students are economically disadvantaged. Burbank High School is one of the best schools in the area, with a 69% reading proficiency and a 42% math proficiency. Students are ready for college and often do well on the SAT and ACT tests. The school has a great reputation in the community and a lively atmosphere. Its strengths are its balanced focus on academics, the performing arts, and a wide range of extracurricular activities, and it is one of the best high schools in California.

In early 2026, Burbank High School held an official ribbon-cutting ceremony for a new campus-wide wayfinding system designed by the Global Unity club to make the school safer and easier to get around. This was a big accomplishment for the students. Athletic excellence continues as wrestler Dela Rosa recently qualified for the state meet, which is the highest level of competition in California. The campus has also started a new chapter of the Hidden Road Initiative, a student group that focuses on helping people around the world.
