PODER Academy Secondary School is a public charter school in Laramie County School District #1 and is known as one of the best schools in Cheyenne. The school serves students in grades 7 through 12 and has about 160 students. It has a small, focused learning environment and a student-to-teacher ratio of about 13:1. PODER Academy was recently named a 2025 ESEA Distinguished School. This is a very high honor for schools that show great student achievement and academic growth. This is the second time the academy has received this award, which shows how committed it is to a challenging curriculum that combines competitive chess and intense athletics in a way that no other school does. The school's "Knightly" community programs continue to encourage creative ways for parents and teachers to work together. The school has also recently updated its campus with new learning spaces to help it prepare students for college.
