Wisconsin has some of the best public elementary schools in the nation in the context of a strong, student-focused education system. With 2,200+ public schools and a logical, 14:1 student-teacher ratio, it provides families access to quality learning opportunities. Wisconsin also values the investment in education and per pupil spending reaching over $12,700 in recent years. The introduction of early literacy programs, such as evidence-based reading instruction created through Act 20, has improved foundational skills in all districts. All districts continue to provide weekly science instruction for elementary grades K-5, and also offer several general education and special education programs. These programs continue to enhance the educational experience of elementary school students and are part of the reason Wisconsin elementary schools have a well-earned national reputation for academic rigor and enjoyable schooling experiences.
