McKinley Elementary School is a public school in Norman, Oklahoma, that serves students in grades pre-kindergarten through 5. It is located in a mid-size suburban area. The school has about 366 students and 27 full-time teachers and one full-time counselor, which means there is one teacher for every 14 students. At McKinley Elementary School, 62% of students were proficient or better in math, and 57% were proficient or better in reading. These numbers are much higher than the averages for the district and the state. For example, in the Norman district, only about 34% of students are good at math and 33% are good at reading. In all of Oklahoma, only about 26% of students are good at math and 25% are good at reading. About 52% of the students are female and 48% are male. About 33% of the students come from low-income families. The school is moderately diverse, with some data sources showing that about 41% of students are minorities. Based on how well it does on state-required tests and how well it gets students ready for the next level, McKinley Elementary School is the 17th best elementary school in Oklahoma. It makes good use of its resources by spending money on each student that helps its teaching programs.

Being Updated
Here's a recent and important update about McKinley Elementary School: McKinley Elementary is once again in the news for its high academic standards. U.S. News & World Report ranked it #17 among all elementary schools in Oklahoma in November 2025. It noted that 62% of students were proficient in math and 57% were proficient in reading. The school is also putting money into long-term safety and infrastructure, in addition to academic success. In May 2024, McKinley opened new storm shelters as part of a district bond program. These shelters can hold all of the school's students and staff. These shelter rooms can also be used as music classrooms when they aren't needed for emergencies. Additionally, McKinley will benefit from a district-wide investment in STEM. The Norman Public Schools Foundation received a $500,000 donation to equip all elementary schools, including McKinley, with materials and tools to get kids interested in science, technology, engineering, art, and math. The types of changes done recently, like higher test scores, better safety infrastructure, and more STEM resources, show that how McKinley Elementary is still dedicated to its academic excellence programms and the health of its students.
