Hamilton City School District educates approximately 9,054 K–12 students, including eight elementary schools serving around 5,000 young learners, with an 18:1 student–teacher ratio and 44% minority enrollment. Student proficiency shows 50% reading and 51% math, in line with state averages, but the Early Literacy score remains low (2-star rating) despite recent gains. After earning just a 1-star rating in 2023, the district advanced to 2 stars in 2024, driven by improvements in early reading outcomes: 31% of third-graders now meet the reading guarantee—a notable rebound given statewide declines.
To sustain progress, Hamilton implemented the Science of Reading and Expeditionary Learning curriculum, paired with data-driven MAP interventions and literacy coaching.
