Harold Schnell Elementary School in West Carrollton, Ohio, served families with a strong commitment to student development and community engagement prior to closing in 2025. The school was known for its committed staff and innovative practice, providing an approach to reading that was acknowledged by the Governor as part of the “Science of Reading” initiative, giving students the chance to develop a foundation for literacy. The school was known for its year-round learning model, which many alumni and alumni parents shared fond memories of, and was one of the things that made us unique. During our last year, Harold Schnell Elementary School was ranked first among the West Carrollton City School District, reflecting the district’s mission related to respect, engaged parent partnership, and academic excellence- characteristics of which families are still seeing today in searching for the best elementary schools in Dayton, Ohio.
