About Eugenio Maria De Hostos Microsociety School

Eugenio María de Hostos MicroSociety School is one of New York's most innovative Elementary Schools. It is a Pre-K through 8 school, which is similar to a functioning “micro-society” in which students organize banks, a courtroom, a government, and media centers to learn problem-solving in real-life context. In 2013, the school was recognized as a national Model School, and it continues to celebrate civic responsibility by holding Inauguration Day ceremonies to welcome new “citizens” each year.

Hostos serves a diverse student body of about 575 students (over 80 % of the students are Hispanic while the remaining percent is African American, White, Asian). Hostos has all certified teachers and families are involved; students achieve consistent academic progress with 44% proficient in reading and 33% in math. Parents appreciate the school’s inviting, congenial inclusive culture, making it one of the more progressive Elementary Schools in New York.
