Kernan Elementary has had a lot going on lately for students and the neighborhood. Kids in K-2 visited Savicki's Farm Pumpkin Patch on October 14, 2025. Sixth graders had a Leadership thing to work on, being leaders and helping out in the community. The Halloween Harvest Festival at New York Energy Zone is coming up on October 18–19. The school also dealt with a sad time when a student died on July 3, 2025, and they're helping everyone get through it. This past summer, the Summer Reading Program got kids reading.
