Nelson Mandela Hosea Zollicoffer School is a place in the Mount Vernon City School District where children go from pre-kindergarten all the way to 8th grade. Around 600 to 650 students attend the school, and there are roughly 18 students for every teacher. This setup helps make sure everyone gets some focused attention while still learning in a structured way. The students here are a pretty mixed group, almost half girls at 49% and just over half boys at 51%. The school really cares about students doing well in their studies, but it also wants them to become good people.
Parents often say they feel good about how much the school truly cares and that staff members are pretty good about keeping them in the loop. Around Mount Vernon, you'll usually see houses going for anywhere from $450,000 to $750,000. That range lets a lot of families stay in the neighborhood for a good long while. The school really makes sure everyone gets a good start, focusing on academics, good values, and making sure everyone feels included. It's truly a supportive place for students to learn. This school is the best school in Mount Vernon.
