As the academic year winds down, Long Island City’s P.S. 111 Jacob Blackwell is redefining what it means to be a “Community School.” The school has attracted citywide attention for its unique, all-encompassing model of care that goes far beyond the classroom.To make sure that each scholar can concentrate on learning, P.S. 111 has an on-site grocery store, a clothing shop, a laundry room, and provides free annual dental and vision services for its students. The school is currently hosting campus tours and community outreach events to welcome incoming Pre-K through 8th grade families for the upcoming year, through its Federal Magnet Program.
