Being Updated
PS/MS 20 George J. Werdan III recently celebrated a significant expansion of its tech integration program, providing K-8 students with daily access to 1:1 digital devices across all core subjects. The school is also touting the success of its “Junior Leadership Academy,” which gives students a voice in campus and spirit event decisions. The campus also recently hosted a ceremony for its newly improved “Werdan Wellness Garden,” which is designed to promote experiential science and student mindfulness.
Q1. How will PS/MS 20 use the 1:1 technology access to improve the academic achievement of all children?
Ans. Our tools help our teachers to give immediate feedback via interactive lessons adapted to the individual learning rate of each child.
Q2. What kind of supports are in place for “Emerging Bilingual” students in the middle school grades at PS/MS 20?
Ans. Each day, our campus provides a “Language Hub” where students can gather in small groups to work on building their academic vocabulary and reading fluency.
Q3. What are the hands-on STEM engineering challenges for PS/MS 20 students this year?
Ans. Students work together to build bridges and model skyscrapers, turning complex scientific theories into fun classroom projects.
Q4. How does PS/MS 20 recognize student academic achievement and student growth throughout the marking period?
Ans. Awards are presented to children for effort and academic excellence at “Scholar Success” assemblies, to which families are invited.
Q5. Can parents volunteer as "Community Helpers" to run events on the PS/MS 20 campus?
Ans. We strongly encourage parents to be a part of our community committee that organizes seasonal walks around the neighborhood and school-wide service projects.
