Being Updated
PS 9 Ryer Avenue Elementary School is celebrating its ongoing “Reading Buddies” program, where older students visit primary classrooms once a week to read stories and inspire a love of literacy. The school recently hosted a successful “Ryer Math Carnival” in which students took part in interactive games to build foundational numeracy skills in a fun and lively environment. Parents have also praised the school’s ‘Open Door’ communication policy which has helped to develop closer links between staff and local parents.
Q1. How does PS 9 address the safety and efficiency of student drop-off and pick-up in the busy Bronx?
Ans. Our campus has supervised entry and designated zones so that every student is able to safely arrive and leave the building each morning.
Q2. Does PS 9 have any particular programs for students who want to work on their public speaking skills at an early age?
Ans. Students can take our “Ryer Voices” elective to improve their presentation skills and lead our morning video announcements to build professional confidence.
Q3. What does PS 9 do to help families whose primary language at home is not English?
Ans. We have a dedicated bilingual liaison to help families with school forms, parent conferences and connecting with local neighborhood resources.
Q4. Are there any student environmental clubs at PS 9 Ryer Avenue campus this year?
Ans. “Ryer Eco-Team” trains students to lead recycling initiatives on campus and explore sustainable living through a multitude of hands-on projects.
Q5. How can PS 9 parents participate on the school leadership team to collaborate on campus academic goals?
Ans. Parents are welcome to complete an interest form at our Fall Open House to work directly with staff to help plan our school’s future success.
