Being Updated
PS 72 Dr. William Dorney celebrates the success of its “Dorney Discovery” reading campaign that has resulted in over 90% of students meeting their mid-year literacy goals. Recently, the school held a “Career Day” with local professionals from the Bronx including healthcare workers and engineers to inspire students to think about their future academic paths. The campus has also started a new inclusive physical education program that allows all the children to participate in competitive and cooperative team sports.
Q1. How does PS 72’s student council ensure that every student has a voice in the planning of the school grounds?
Ans. The elected student leaders meet with the principal once a month to brainstorm ideas to improve the school and plan events to foster school spirit.
Q2. How is PS 72 implementing new technology to deliver digital literacy training to its primary-grade students?
Ans. Yes. That is why we have introduced ‘Tech Tuesdays’ to assist our students to acquire the skills they require to be able to navigate the digital world and keep themselves safe online.
Q3. What are the notices PS 72 sends to local families to inform and be transparent under “Parents’ Right to Know”?
Ans. We partner with our parents to regularly update them on teacher credentials and campus performance
Q4. How does PS 72 honor student academic milestones and personal growth each marking period?
Answer. We have “Star Student” assemblies every day and families come in to see their children recognized for effort and academic achievement.
Q5. Can PS 72 parents work as part of a “Library Friends” group that helps run book fairs on campus?
Ans. Yes, we are inviting parents to be part of our Library Committee to help us plan seasonal reading events and book giveaways for our students.
